Extreme Makeover Home Edition
Island Floors & Rugs

Giving back to the community and to the larger world family is what Brewster Buck is all about. So when the producers of “extreme Makeover Home Edition” asked if his company, Island Floors and Rugs Ltd. in Pawleys Island, South Carolina, would supply the rugs and floor coverings for the Suggs home, he didn’t hesitate.
“if Somebody asks for something, you give it to them,” said Brewster, the company's owner and creative design specialist.
Before the build, Brewster met with the “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” design team and started selecting the perfect floor coverings to compliment the 3,500-square-foot home.
“We provided custom design, manufactured area rugs, binding services and design expertise for colors and placement of the area rugs,” he explained.
During the build, he and his crew made two deliveries to the Suggs home, enjoying the frantic atmosphere and watching the project come together. His employees got a tour of the home, a T-shirt and, more importantly, the satisfaction of knowing Island Floors & Rugs helped turn the house into a home.
“Everyone was pretty excited,” said Brewster. “They (the Suggs family) deserve to have a better situation.”
Island Floors & Rugs opened in 1979 as Designer Floor Fashion. In 1984, the company changed it’s name and moved to its current home in Pawleys Island. Hurricane Hugo put a stop to expansion plans in 1989, but, in 1993, construction finally began on a more modern facillity that included a larger production area and showroom.
For more than 25 yars, the company has served clients all over the country, as well as those in need both close to home and in faraway places, including Haiti. It’s the ultimate form of recycling, Brewster said.
“Island Floors has always donated any reusable products such as cabinets, plumbing and appliances, as well as floor coverings, to local families in need through word of mouth, churches or local habitat projects,” he said.
Brewster’s generosity is guided by a simple principle: “It’s just the right thing to do.” He also designs websites for nonprofits and charities.
Island Floors and Rugs offers a wide range of products and services, along with exceptional customer service, which Brewster considers to be a key aspect of his company’s success. The company sells wood flooring, ceramic tile, recycled products, specialty flooring, natural fiber rugs, custom Orientals, design services and more. Commercial businesses, rental properties, medical facilities and, of course, a large number of homeowners have relied on his expertise to help find exactly what they are looking for.
“We offer design services for people trying to redecorate a home or build a new one,” he added. If “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” comes calling again, the producers can count of Brewster.
“Opportunities come up every day to help others,” he said. “Island Floors have always made every effort to provide for folks in need.”
